Great Vietnam Sites to Visit - Phu Quoc

If you love beaches you will love Phu Quoc Island. Its seashores are stunning and unspoiled. Many are still fairly faraway and seldom visited. In reality the island has simply started to grow to be a vacationer website within the past couple years. And most of the tourists stay close to the few large motels leaving the rest of the island to the greater adventurous types.

Where is it? It is off Vietnam's southeast coast, proper subsequent to the Cambodian border. The nearest mainland towns are Ha Tien and Rach Gia. You can get a direct flight from Ho Chi Minh City, however test the return flight time table earlier than you move. There is also a hydrofoil ferry among the island and a noticeably faraway vicinity near Ha Tien.

Doung Dong, the primary metropolis, is positioned next to the most effective airport at the island but it's far a very small and dusty place (in the dry season). If you need to move scuba diving that is the vicinity to stay. The different town, An Thoi, is at the southern tip of the island and is a great area if you need to move fishing or exploring the small islands off the southern tip.

Although the island could be very rustic there are plenty of sports for the adventurous. I went to head diving with the Rainbow Divers, a PADI 5 Star IDC and National Geographic Dive Centre, in Duong Dong town (11 Tran Hung Dao Street). They are the dive padi idc institution I usually use in Vietnam as they may be very accommodating and safety aware.

Trekking is popular with the younger and hardier vacationer crowd. The northern 0.33 of the island is quite mountainous, uninhabited and really lovely. Over 77,000 acres (31,422 ha) have been preserved as Phu Quoc National Park. The maximum factor, Mount Chua, is 1980 feet high (603 m). But maximum of the terrain is hilly rather steep mountainside. The park has a wealthy atmosphere due to the fact it's far domestic to Malaysian, Burmese and Himalayan species. Hiking and tenting are endorsed in the Park.

Getting across the island is easy if you lease a bike. They are to be had thru all the resorts and traveler/tour stores. I rented one across from the Rainbow Dive keep for round $eight-$10 a day. Renting one is a totally informal association; no insurance or paperwork. If it breaks down or is stolen you negotiate to make it right. This might not look like the most secure approach of transport however in case you recognise the way to pressure a motorbike safely it is a great choice.

I stayed on the Thanh Kieu Beach Resort. It is set a mile out of doors of metropolis, making a bike a necessity. I had a small one-room bungalow with bathtub for approximately $25 a day. I went diving within the mornings and the afternoon and nighttime I spent at the beach on the La Veranda Resort, nearer in to town. The night out of doors buffet is delicious. There is an Evening Market inside the town that has all types of souvenirs and lots of little kiosks to devour.

I enjoy each of my trips to Vietnam. But the element I revel in the maximum is travelling across the usa and seeing new points of interest. I even have stood on the threshold of the Red River, at Lao Cai metropolis, which paperwork Vietnam's border with China and have been scuba diving on Phu Quoc Island off Vietnam's southern coast, right subsequent to the Cambodian boarder.
